Présentation de l'éditeur

Ce numéro du BMS est un numéro thématique sur les « 30 ans de BMS ». Il comprend un
article de recherche en anglais et huit notes de recherche en cours (quatre en anglais et
quatre en français). Il comprend également la RC33 Newsletter de l’automne 2013 du
Comité de recherche 33 (RC33) « Logique et Méthodologie » de l’Association Internationale
de Sociologie (ISA). Le numéro commence par deux notes de recherche, suivies
par l’article de recherche et les autres notes.

Dans la première note de recherche, en français, « Les 30 ans du BMS », Alain Degenne, le
mentor de l’équipe éditoriale du BMS, souligne l’importance de la méthodologie sociologique
et des données empiriques, et donne ses impressions du développement de la revue.
La deuxième note de recherche, en anglais, « Commentaire sur les 30 ans de la BMS »,
est rédigée par Stephen Barr, président de SAGE International – l’éditeur du BMS depuis
2010 – et compagnon de route du BMS depuis la fin des années 1980.

L’article de recherche, en anglais, « L’analyse de trois décennies de BMS », par Karl
M. van Meter et Mathilde de Saint Léger, reprend les analyses des première et deuxième
décennies, puis présente et commente une analyse complète par mots associés de tous les
articles et notes de recherche du BMS pour fournir un portrait global mais détaillé de son
évolution et de son développement futur possible.

La troisième note de recherche, en anglais, « Réflexions sur trente ans de la méthodologie
et les trente prochains », par Duane Alwin, le « doyen » du comité scientifique du
BMS, met au jour sept tendances différentes de la méthodologie sociologique dans les
contributions du BMS.

Dans la quatrième note de recherche, en français, « Quelques traces chronologiques
de l’exploration textométrique », Pascal Marchand décrit le développement de la sociologie
du langage a` travers quatre étapes chronologiques et pointe le roˆle du BMS dans ces
développements.

La cinquième note de recherche, en anglais, « Trente ans de méthodologie d’enquête /
Trente ans de BMS » par Edith D. de Leeuw présente un aperçu de l’histoire de la méthodologie d’enquête et des statistiques de l’enquête sur la base d’une analyse des contributions au BMS depuis les débuts, en octobre 1983.

Dans la sixième note de recherche, en français, « Je me souviens, je me souviens pas
très bien . . . 30 ans de BMS », Marie-Ange Schiltz, membre du comité de rédaction du
BMS depuis sa création, revient sur la façon dont elle s’y est impliquée et décrit – avec
graphiques, tableaux et statistiques – comment la revue a évolué depuis cette époque.

La septième note de recherche, en anglais, « Pour fêter les 30 ans du BMS et sa coopération avec RC33 et SAGE », Jörg Blasius en tant qu’ancien président du RC33 et
organisateur de plusieurs congrès RC33, raconte son histoire d’association avec le BMS
et SAGE Publications.

Enfin dans une huitième note de recherche, en français (et en anglais), « Sélection (français/English) d’articles du BMS sur CARME (Correspondance Analysis and Related Methods) et sur la régression logistique », Philippe Cibois et Jérôme Deauvieau, tous deux
membres du comité de rédaction du BMS, présentent une sélection d’articles commentés

This issue of the BMS is a thematic issue on ‘‘30 Years of BMS’’ and includes one
research article in English and eight ongoing research notes (four in English and four
in French). It also includes the Autumn 2013 RC33 Newsletter of the Research Committee
33, ‘‘Logic and Methodology’’, of the International Sociological Association (ISA).

The issue begins with two research notes, followed by the research article and the other
notes. The first research note, in French, is ‘‘The BMS’s 30 Years’’, by Alain Degenne,
the mentor of the BMS editorial team who stresses the importance of sociological methodology and empirical data, and gives his impression of the BMS’s development.
The second research note, in English, ‘‘Comment on 30 Years of the BMS’’, is by
Stephen Barr, President of SAGE International, the publisher of the BMS since 2010, but
who has known the BMS since the late 1980s.

The research article, in English, is ‘‘Analyzing Three Decades of BMS’’, by Karl M.
van Meter and Mathilde de Saint Le´ger who look at the previous analyses of the first and
second decades and then present and comment the recent full co-word analysis to all
BMS research articles and ongoing research notes to provide an overall but detailed
portrait of the BMS, its evolution and possible future development.

The third research note, in English, is ‘‘Reflections on Thirty Years of Methodology
and the Next Thirty’’, by Duane Alwin, the ‘‘dean’’ of the BMS Scientific Committee,
who traces seven different trends in sociological methodology in BMS research papers.

The fourth research note, in French, is ‘‘A Few Chronological Traces of Textometric
Exploration’’ by Pascal Marchand who describes the development of the sociology of language
through four chronological stages and the role of the BMS in these developments.
The fifth research note, in English, is ‘‘Thirty Years of Survey Methodology / Thirty
Years of BMS’’, by Edith D. de Leeuw who presents an overview of the history of survey
methodology and survey statistics based on an analysis of BMS issues since the start in
October 1983.

The sixth research note, in French, is ‘‘I Remember, I Don’t Really RememberWell . . .
30 Years of the BMS’’, by Marie-Ange Schiltz, member of the BMS Editorial Board from
the beginning, who goes back over how she first got involved with the BMS and describes
how – with graphs, tables and statistics – the journal has evolved since then.

he seventh research note, in English, is ‘‘Celebrating 30 Years of BMS and Its Cooperation
with RC33 and SAGE’’, by Jo¨rg Blasius who as former President of RC33 and organizer
of several RC33 congresses, and who tells his story of association with the BMS and
SAGE Publications.

The eighth research note, in French (and in English), is ‘‘A Selection of BMS Articles
on CARME (Correspondence Analysis and Related Methods) and on Logistic Regression’’,
by Philippe Cibois and Je´roˆme Deauvieau, who are both members of the BMS
Editorial Board and who made this commented selection of articles.
